IELTS writing ("the App") is an IELTS Writing practice application developed by PrincipiaForge ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what data the App handles, how third-party services are used, and your rights regarding your information. The App is offline-first: your writing stays on your device, and we operate no servers that store it.
1. Data We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit your essays, practice content, or study data to our own servers — we operate none. All of your essays, review history, decks, progress, analytics, and preferences are stored locally on your device. The only data that leaves your device is the limited information processed by the third-party services described below, and anything you yourself choose to share with an external AI tool (see Section 3).
2. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services, which may process limited data according to their own privacy policies:
2.1 Firebase Crashlytics (Google)
Used to collect anonymous crash reports so we can identify and fix bugs. Crashlytics automatically collects device information (such as model and OS version), app state at the time of a crash, and stack traces. It does not collect your essays or other writing, and it does not identify you personally.
2.2 Firebase Analytics (Google)
Used to understand which features help learners and how the App is used in aggregate, so we can improve it. Analytics collects app-interaction events and device or other identifiers (such as a non-permanent app instance ID). It does not collect your essays or other writing. Aggregate usage data helps us decide what to build next.
2.3 Google Sign-In
Signing in with Google is optional and skippable. If you choose to sign in, the App receives your basic Google profile information — your name and email address — and stores it on your device to personalize the experience (for example, to greet you by name). We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not sell it. You can sign out at any time, and you can revoke the App's access from your Google Account permissions. See Section 6 for how to delete this data.
2.4 RevenueCat
Used to manage in-app Pro subscriptions. RevenueCat processes purchase transactions made through Google Play and may collect an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase history to determine your subscription status. No personal information beyond what Google Play provides for a purchase is shared, and no essays or writing are shared.
3. Your Essays and the "Bring Your Own AI" Handoff
The App contains no AI and never sends your essays anywhere on its own. When you use the grading handoff, the App copies your essay text so that you can paste it into the external AI tool of your choice (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini). At that point you are sharing that text directly with a third party that we neither control nor operate. Any information you provide to that AI tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy and terms, not ours. We recommend reviewing their policies and avoiding sharing sensitive personal information in your practice essays.
4. Data Storage
All App data is stored locally on your device using an on-device database. You can export your data to a file and import it again — for example, to move to a new device — and those files are created and stored wherever you choose. We never receive a copy of this data.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data. We do not share your essays or study data with any third party. The only data transfers that occur are (a) the limited, mostly anonymous data sent to the third-party services in Section 2, and (b) any content you yourself choose to share with an external AI tool as described in Section 3.
6. Deleting Your Data
You are always in control of your data:
- Local data — Use the App's reset option in Settings to erase your essays, decks, and progress, or simply uninstall the App to remove all local data from your device.
- Google Sign-In data — Sign out within the App to remove your stored name and email from the device, and revoke the App's access at your Google Account permissions.
- Requesting deletion — To request deletion of any data associated with your account, email us at [email protected] with the subject "Data deletion" from the email address you signed in with. We will action your request within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for IELTS candidates, typically teenagers and adults preparing for the exam. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
